Taylor Swift Says She Feels Great About Not Being Muzzled Anymore

Taylor Swift has a renewed sense of liberation. The pop star recently dropped a trailer for her new documentary, Taylor Swift Miss Americana, which was released on the 22nd of January, Wednesday. To provide context, Swift has been involved in several high-profile feuds with other celebrities, many of which attend the same ceremonies.

It makes sense that the pop-star felt a bit hesitant to perform at the 2019 MTV VMAs. In the trailer, the singer-songwriter stated she was “totally ready” to head out on stage, adding, somewhat facetiously, “no one out there in the audience actively hates me.”

Swift says in the trailer that she feels great about “not feeling muzzled anymore,” adding that it was mostly her own doing as well. As fans of the singer-songwriter know, Swift has found herself in the headlines for feuds several times in the past, including with Kanye West, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and perhaps most recently, Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta.

During a conversation with reporters from Variety, the singer recently explained how she felt toward the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye stormed the stage saying that she didn’t deserve the award.

Swift claimed that Kanye’s words toward her that evening really left an imprint on her psyche over the years. Explained in another way, it sounds like Taylor was negatively affected by the 2009 MTV VMAs incident.

As it was previously reported, Taylor was on stage that evening accepting the award for Best Female Video, and the rapper interrupted the acceptance speech to say that Beyonce Knowles was being robbed of the accolade.

Taylor claims that at that time, she only had experience in the country music scene, so to have such a thing happen to her at such a vulnerable time in her life was very painful. It felt as though she wasn’t accepted there and didn’t belong.

Swift claimed she learned the importance of being resilient from the incident. She could’ve just cried about it and gave up, however, she chose to press on. Consequently, she’s one of the most popular and successful stars today.
